I Have a Dream…Character

Sports build character! While that has a lot of truth, I believe there’s a flip-side to that…Sports REVEAL character! How many times have you seen an athlete do something during a sporting event that they later were ashamed of or apologized for? Sometimes, in the heat of a battle (sports) when the human spirit is tested, it can reveal a lack of good character traits. Whenever people are tested, especially in terms of adversity, a person’s true nature (character) is exposed.

Character Still Counts

There’s an old Native American story that says:  Inside every person is a good dog and bad dog, and yet both cannot survive.  Which one survives?  The one you feed! How is this accomplished? If you feed the good, you will starve the bad.  If you feed the bad, you will starve the good.  While there is so much that we have NO control over, we DO choose our character: CHARACTER STILL COUNTS!

I Have a Dream…Character!

I have a dream…that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character (Martin Luther King Jr., “March On America” speech delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. – August 28, 1963). Using that portion of his speech as a springboard, the program sets its aim on personifying the ultimate importance of character and character traits.  This presentation is not only great for MLK Birthday and Black History Month, but it is an excellent overall character education assembly.
